SSH (Secure Shell)

SSH (or Secure Shell) is a network protocol to exchange data between devices (primarily used on Unix-like systems to remotely access an user account). In contrast to Telnet or FTP, all data (including passwords) are send encrypted.

SSH provides three important features:

  • Authentication of the data receiver/remote station
  • Encryption of the submitted data including credentials
  • Data integrity (protection against spoofing)
