Mailbox Alert
Mailbox Alert is a Thunderbird extension, bringing you configurable, folder based “new e-mail” notifications. You can define detailed, per-folder rules (in contrast to the global default Thunderbird notifications). In combination with Inbox Filters, this provides the possibility to get an optical notification e.g. when your girlfriend writes you, without getting disturbed by unneeded pop-ups triggered by the high-traffic mailing list you are subscribed to.
To configure a rule, simply right click on the target folder and choose “Mailbox Alert” from the context menu. The following dialogue should be self-explanatory.
Have a look at the "Usage" section on the project's website. You'll find useful tips how to get the sender's name, subject etc. showed within the notification there. Simply use the available placeholders, e.g. %sendername (%countall new)
or %subject
You should disable the native Thunderbird notifications/alerts (Preferences→General→Show an alert) to prevent redundant alerts when getting new mails.
Installation
Simply use the default installation method. See https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/addon/2610 to get the .xpi
