Extended Compiz configuration (Ubuntu)
Ubuntu does not provide many configuration possibilities to configure Compiz by using a GUI. This pages lists a few tools
Terms
Compiz
An compositing window manager, responsible for all these cool and useful Desktop effects. Needs 3D acceleration. For details, see Compiz.
Metacity
GNOME's default window manager. Does not need hardware acceleration. For details, see Metacity.
Tools
Basic: Simple Compizconfig settings manager
10.04 Lucid and above
Simply install the following package(s):
simple-ccsm
(universe)
After installation, you can start the program by clicking “System→Preferences→Simple Compizconfig settings manager”.
Advanced: Compizconfig settings manager

After installation, you can start the program by clicking “System→Preferences→Compizconfig settings manager”.
Tips and tricks
Switch between Compiz and Metacity
Some applications may have problems when Compiz is running. So it is nice if you are able to switch between Compiz and Metacity with a few clicks.
Fusion-Icon provides a Panel Applet for this task. Simply install the following package(s):
fusion-icon
(universe)
After installation, you can start the program by clicking “Applications→System Tools→Compiz Fusion Icon”.
