FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol to exchange files between host via TCP/IP networks.

FTP provides no encryption. All transmissions are unencrypted. This means user names, passwords, FTP commands and transferred files can be read by anyone sniffing on the network. If possible, you should use file transfer via SSH (=SFTP) or FTP secured via SSL/TLS (=FTPS) instead.
