UNRAR

UNRAR is a free, closed-source unpacking tool to decompress .rar archives on Unix-like systems. It is the developer's1) unpacking pendant to the widespread Windows application WinRAR.

There is also a program called unrar-free. It is the effort of an Open Source UNRAR clone using reverse engineering, but still not perfect. Therefore you should use the proprietary UNRAR to prevent problems (if you can life with proprietary software on your system).

Installation

Simply install the following package(s):

The GNOME archive manager file-roller detects an installed unrar. Therefore you don't need to uncompress files via terminal, you can use the common GUI.
