sshd (OpenSSH server daemon)
sshd
is OpenSSH's SSH server program. SSH clients can connect to it, e. g. to execute commands on the machine or to transfer files.
A wrongly configured SSH server is a serious security threat. Make sure you understand the sshd
configuration and the access restrictions it provides before using it on a real-live system.
Installation
Ubuntu
4.10 Warty and above
In contrast to the client tools, the SSH server is not installed by default. If you want to run a SSH server on your machine, simply install the following package(s):
openssh-server
(main)
The default configuration is a useful basis. See “Configuration” to adjust sshd
to fit your needs.
