Inkscape
Inkscape is a cross-platform Open Source vector graphics editor. Beside strong features and intuitive usage, a major development goal is to create a 100% XML, CSS and SVG standards compliant program.
Installation
Ubuntu
10.04 Lucid and above
Simply install the following package(s):
inkscape
(main)
There are some additional packages, providing special functionality:
libwmf-bin
(universe) – needed to convert Windows MetaFile (WMF) pictures, e.g. used by MS Word.pstoedit
(universe) – needed to translate PostScript and PDF files into other vector graphics formats.sketch
(universe) – a simple system for producing line drawings of three-dimensional objects and scenes.
After installation, you can start the program by clicking “Applications→Graphics→Inkscape Graphics Vector Editor”. Or open a terminal and start it via inkscape
.
Windows
XP and above
Simply download the Windows installer and execute it with administrator privileges. Or use Inkscape portable (also available at the linked download page), if you want to run Inkscape without installation.
